Morphology and Geometry
In Morphology and Geometry, artists and married couple Emily Schnellbacher Bean and Justin Kingsley Bean exhibit the work of their distinct practices, creating a unique dialogue between seemingly disparate visual languages.
Emily’s colorful, inviting soft sculptures draw inspiration from organic and anatomical forms, embracing the shifting, evolving qualities of biological morphology and inviting tactile engagement that offers a new perspective on familiar materials. Justin’s vibrantly-colored abstract geometric paintings feature intricate, hard-edged compositions that examine the networks and infrastructures that shape our world. Using abstract symbols, grids, and patterns, he crafts a visual language that reflects his subjective experience of the techno-cultural present.
Together, their work bridges the natural and the constructed, fluidity and form, inviting viewers into a space where transformation and structure converge, and where contrasting approaches to art-making unexpectedly harmonize.
